Ekakitie was playing Pokemon Go at Iowa City Park, when a nearby bank was robbed. Ekakitie was wearing headphones and had no idea the cops were on to him, or even approached him. The innocent male was searched thoroughly, with four guns drawn to his head, USA Today reports.

“It’s reasonable given the circumstances that weapons would have still been drawn, given the fact that this person matched the description of an armed bank robber; He was in the area of the bank within two minutes,” he said. “But it’s extremely sad that our society has brainwashed us all to the point where we can’t feel safe being approached by the police officers in our respective communities.”

Although he commends the Iowa Police Department for doing their jobs and handling the situation in a respectful manner, he wanted to let the world know they should learn from his mistake, and always be aware of their surroundings. Race may not have played an issue in this instance, but several black men have lost their life within the past years for “not complying to officers’ commands.”
