Samuel L. Jackson On Drug Habit: "It Was That One Thing That Was In The Way"
While he's known around the world as one of the highest-grossing actors in history, Samuel L. Jackson's road to super stardom was not without its fair share of obstacles. In a candid interview for The Guardian, the actor opened up with his struggles with drug addiction and how his wife and children helped him to kick his habit.
While he was preoccupied with promo for his latest film, The Legend Of Tarzan, the actor devoted some time to discuss his personal life, even going as far as to reveal that his addiction to crack resulted in his wife, LaTanya, finding him on the kitchen floor. Despite his drug addiction, Jackson insists that it did not interfere with his acting career.
“I had a very good theater reputation. Granted, I was a fu*king drug addict and I was out of my mind a lot of the time, but I had a good reputation. Showed up on time, knew my lines, hit my marks. I just wasn’t making a lot of money, but I was very satisfied artistically," he said. "I was doing Pulitzer prize-winning plays. I was working with people who made me better, who challenged me. So I was doing things the right way, it was just that one thing that was in the way - my addiction. And once that was out of the way, it was – boom! The door blew wide open."
