Spice Girls’ Classic “Wannabe” Remixed For New Girl Power Campaign
The Global Goals’ Project Everyone has used the 20th anniversary of Spice Girls’ classic hit “Wannabe” to raise awareness of the issues affecting women today, including violence, access to education, child marriage and the struggle for equal pay.
The video, directed by rising movie-maker MJ Delaney, features artists from India, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, USA and Canada. The diverse roster, according to PR Week, includes superstar Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and London R&B trio M.O.
Part of the campaign, aimed at empowering a new generation of young women, calls for photos to be shared on social media with the hashtag #WhatIReallyReallyWant. Submissions will be collected and presented to world leaders at the UN General Assembly this coming September.
“I think this film is a wonderful idea,” said former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham to The Guardian. “How fabulous it is that after 20 years the legacy of the Spice Girls’ girl power is being used to encourage and empower a whole new generation?”
