Zoe Saldana On Motherhood: "It Takes A Village"
Ain't that the truth.
Zoe Saldana has made a name for herself in Hollywood as a total badass in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Colombiana. Today, she is tackling a whole new role—mother of twin boys. The Dominican actress got candid with People about motherhood and how she balances a demanding career.
“We’re a good team, but we also have a great village, so his parents are around," she said of her Italian hubby, Marco Perego. "And when they can’t be, then my mother’s around, but we always have our nannies."
Currently preparing herself for the post-production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the pre-production of Avatar 2, juggling her hectic schedule is now much more difficult, adding toddlers to the equation. “If we’re filming on location, my husband will be with us for 10 days and then he’ll fly back for four, but we can’t be more than one week away from each other,” she shared. “That’s a promise we’ve made that we’re trying to keep.”
Saldana got candid about what it's like being a mother on set, and how life has changed from what it used to be. “Last summer, when we were shooting the whole cast got to spend more time together because half of them are not parents yet, and I had twin boys that were 6 months old,” she said. “I had just gotten over breastfeeding and I just couldn’t come out every evening after shooting and having dinner. I didn’t want to, either. I wanted to go home, and with the only 20 minutes that I had, I wanted to bathe my boys and put them to sleep.”
She continued, “every other day I wanted to drink a bottle of wine and pass out like I used to. Watching, like, investigative shows. I can’t do that now.”
