A Biopic About Political Activist Angela Davis Is In The Works
The former political prisoner might finally be getting her due on the big screen.
Viewers familiar with the compelling tale of Angela Davis have seen her immortalized on screen in the acclaimed documentary Free Angela & All Political Prisoners. However, it looks like the famed activist is finally getting her due in the Hollywood arena once and for all. According to Shadow and Act, an unauthorized biopic about Davis is currently in development, with a script written by seasoned scribe LaToya Morgan for the film production company The Firm.
For readers unfamiliar with the Davis' tale, the political activist gained fame during the 1970s when she was a philosophy professor at the University of California in Los Angeles. Davis gained further notoriety when she became a fugitive following the 1970 armed takeover of a courthouse in Marin County, California and third woman to appear on the FBI's Most Wanted List. Eventually, Davis was acquitted of all charges by a white jury.
With a compelling tale rife with themes of crime, politics and poetic justice, an Angela Davis biopic would be a welcome addition to the big screen.
