Trump Meeting Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto Won’t Change Anything
The American viewing public first experienced the inflammatory rhetoric of Donald Trump last summer when the Republican presidential nominee grossly classified Mexican immigrants as rapists, criminals and drug dealers. In addition, the controversial candidate proposed that Mexico pay to build a wall along the border in order to prevent undocumented immigrants from “illegally” entering American territory. Trump’s anti-Mexican/anti-immigrant rhetoric has not gone unnoticed. On Tuesday (Aug. 30), the polarizing businessman and presidential candidate revealed on Twitter that he has accepted an invitation to meet with Enrique Peña Nieto, the president of Mexico.
While we’re not entirely sure what Trump hopes to get out of this meeting, we’re almost certain that meeting with the President of Mexico will not alter his unpopularity among voters. It’s not hidden knowledge that the Republican presidential nominee and devil incarnate (in the eyes of too many voters) has built his campaign on toxic ideologies such as racism, xenophobia, sexism and Islamophobia. In the process, Trump has earned unfavorable comparisons to Adolf Hitler by many, including Peña Nieto himself.
