Frank Ocean’s Producer Vaguely Answers ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ Related Questions, Continues To Frustrate Fans
Many fans of Frank Ocean’s music have been left in the dark when it comes to information of any sort regarding his sophomore album, Boys Don’t Cry.
To settle down fans, his producer Malay went on Reddit for an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) chat yesterday (Aug. 16), to offer up some insight on the elusive follow up to Channel Orange. However, as with most people involved in the album’s creation process, some of Malay’s responses are pretty darn vague.
When you say Frank is always in the studio, what is it like being in there with him? What is his work ethic like?
Malay: Very focused and persistent… Yet very free.
What was the overall vibe like while working on Channel Orange?
Malay: Two friends hanging out.
I don’t care to know about the release date or any other details surrounding the album, but just please answer this for the sake of my mental health: was the album actually supposed to drop on August 5?
Malay: Never heard of an actual date… Then again I don’t pay attention to a lot of stuff.
However, one fan decided to write a lengthy and obviously distressed note about the constant teasing and delays of Frank’s EP, to which Malay stopped horsing around and gave an in-depth answer.
“First of all we all massively appreciate and love you guys, Frank has told me this himself many times,” he wrote. “To be fair tho [sic], art cannot be rushed. It’s about making sure the perfect aesthetic for the situation has been reached, to do that, takes constant tweaking, trial and error.. That goes for any creative situation.”
Rumors have been swirling that the release date will be Nov. 13, 2016, which coincides with Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. We wait with baited breath.
