Issa Rae Inks First-Look Deal With HBO Ahead Of 'Insecure' Premiere
All she does is win.
Two months ahead the series premiere of her upcoming HBO comedy Insecure, Issa Rae is already reaping the benefits of her relationship with the programming network.
According to Deadline, the actress and writer has inked an exclusive two-year producing deal with HBO. Under her new deal, Rae will be tasked with developing programming focused on diverse voices and storytelling that will be geared toward all of HBO's platforms.
Rae first gained notice for her webseries, The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. The series, which garnered more than 20 million views online, was praised for its off kilter humor, racial commentary and subverting old-school Hollywood stereotypes of African-American women. Viewers of Rae's breakout online comedy can expect to see those same themes revisited in her upcoming prime time comedy Insecure. The series, which Rae co-created and produced with fellow comic Larry Wilmore, will premiere Oct. 9 on HBO.
