Rae first gained notice for her webseries, The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. The series, which garnered more than 20 million views online, was praised for its off kilter humor, racial commentary and subverting old-school Hollywood stereotypes of African-American women. Viewers of Rae’s breakout online comedy can expect to see those same themes revisited in her upcoming prime time comedy Insecure. The series, which Rae co-created and produced with fellow comic Larry Wilmore, will premiere Oct. 9 on HBO.
