Spelman College Considering Admitting Transgender Women
2016 is the year of change.
In a bold move, Spelman College has announced that it will be considering accepting transgender students into it's ranks, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Spelman is a historically Black and all female institution, that has made the Forbes 2016 top colleges and universities among Howard, Stanford, Williams, and a bevy of other prestigious universities and colleges. In a welcome back letter to the campus, The president of the of college, Mary Schmidt Campbell, let the students know of the institution's new plans.
A task force is being created and will be headed by the vice president for Enrollment Management, Ingrid Hayes. In a well guided move, the college will also have an emergency task force.
"A task force on emergency planning, chaired by Dr. Darnita Killian, C’79, vice president for Student Affairs. She will work with Public Safety and other stakeholders to develop a set of protocols and procedures for students, faculty and staff to follow in the event of an emergency." said President Campbell.
With 2016 being a very rough year for LGBTQIA community, this possible change could push other similar and even not similar institutions to make a change in regards to the topic of transgender acceptance.
