Trump Tower Climber Identified As Supporter Michael Joseph Ryan
The man who was apprehended by police for scalding the Trump Tower in New York has been identified as “supporter” Michael Joseph Ryan also known as Stephen Rogata.
The Virgina native was first seen by the building around 3:40 p.m. by police as he used suction cups and a harness to climb the tower from the 5th-floor atrium. By 6 p.m., he made his way towards the 21st floor, where he was captured by police. The incident was live streamed by media outlets, as well as folks passing by.
ABC News reports NYPD Emergency Services knocked out the glass from the 21st floor in order to grab Ryan from the suction cups. A source close to the police claimed Ryan was carrying leaflets, possibly explaining his actions. In addition to the flyers, a video has surfaced on YouTube with a man who resembles Ryan, discussing why he decided to climb the tower. In the one-minute clip, the man in a underwhelming tone, says he wanted a special meeting with the presidential nominee before telling others to vote for Trump in November.
“I am an independent researcher seeking a private audience with you to discuss an important matter,” the man says while wearing an oversized sweatshirt. “I guarantee that it is your best interest to honor this request. Believe me, if my purpose wasn’t significant, I wouldn’t have risked my life pursuing it. The reason I climbed your tower was to get your attention. If I had sought this by conventional means I would be much less likely to have success because you are a busy man with many responsibilities.”
As the video continues to make its way around the web, this hasn’t stopped many from making a few jokes about the incident.
Ironically, Trump wasn’t in New York at the time of the incident. Ryan’s charges have yet to be announced by the NYPD.
