Venus And Serena Williams Lose Olympic Doubles Match For The First Time
The Williams sisters were eliminted in round one.
Venus and Serena Williams lost an Olympics doubles match on Sunday (Aug. 7) in a shocking upset for the duo. Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic beat the Williams sisters 6-3 eliminating them in the first round, NBC reports.
The defeat marks the first time the Williams sisters have ever lost an Olympics pairs game. They previously took home gold medals in 2000, 2008, and 2012 (Serena pulled out of the 2004 Summer Olympic due to an injured knee).
Though Serena won the first round of her Olympics singles match early Sunday, Twitter erupted after she and Venus lost the doubles match.
