Chris Brown Remains Seated For National Anthem During Game Held On 9/11
During Power 106’s celebrity basketball charity game at USC in Los Angeles, Chris Brown could be seen sitting during the National Anthem. This comes weeks after football player Colin Kaepernick made headlines by refusing to stand during the national anthem in protest of injustice towards blacks and other people of color.
The charity event was held on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“I understand everybody’s exercising their right to stand or to sit, and exercising their right to freedom and justice,” R&B crooner Tank said to the fans in attendance, as he was set to perform the anthem. “But in the wake of 9/11, please understand and respect the fact that real men and women and children lost their lives for this very thing we are able to stand for today. I’d love it if everybody in this building could sing along with me.” Brown sits on the sidelines, appearing to enjoy Tank’s rendition, but he doesn’t stand until the very end.
TMZ also reports that Brown got into an argument with a fan at the event, in which cops had to intervene, however, there is no word on what caused the argument.
Breezy didn’t fully respond to the controversial move, but he did most a picture of the TMZ headline about his actions with the caption “Stay classy!” on Instagram.
Twitter’s reactions seemed to vary, with both sides of the coin chiming in with their thoughts. What are yours? Sound off.
