Colin Kaepernick Vows To Donate $1 Million To Charities Aimed At Societal Change
Colin Kaepernick remains firm in his position to bring light to the racial tension in America, and to take it a step further, the San Francisco 49er plans to donate $1 million to charitable organizations aimed at enacting societal change.
Following a “Salute to the Military” game between the 49ers and the San Diego Chargers (Sept. 1), Kaepernick revealed his charitable plans.
“I’m currently working with organizations to be involved, and making sure I’m actively in these communities, as well as donating the first million dollars I make this year to different organizations to help these communities and help these people,” he stated. “I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and make the kind of money I do, and I have to help these people. I have to help these communities. It’s not right that they’re not put in the position to succeed, or given the opportunities to succeed.

Kaepernick’s stance was recently placed in the spotlight when he decided to sit when the national anthem played ahead of his game against the Green Bay Packers. Kaepernick said, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Since then, spectators and fellow athletes have shared their thoughts on the powerful gesture. Recently, storied Olympian, Tommie Smith, praised Kaepernick for taking a stand and using his platform to spark change.
