NYPD States Race Wasn’t A Factor In Desiigner’s Arrest
With a quick rise to musical stardom, Desiigner’s acclaim to fame was put on hold when he and four other associates were arrested by NYPD officers after a reported road rage incident. According to the 911 caller, the “Panda” rapper allegedly pulled a loaded gun on him. Authorities tracked down Desiigner’s SUV, and initially claimed they found pills within the vehicle.
After a more thorough investigation, the pills were actually steroids and there was no weapon found, leading to Desiigner’s weapons and drug charges to be dropped. The G.O.O.D. Music signee’s lawyer claimed that it was racial bias that motivated Desiigner and his acquaintances to be arrested, but today (Sept. 13), the NYPD is putting to rest those claims.
An official issued a statement to TMZ, writing, “There was a male Hispanic complainant who said he was menaced with a black firearm from individuals in the car. There was no targeting of him because he was black, NYPD arrested him because he committed a crime.”
In a previous memo from the Brooklynite’s legal team, they stood by their claims that Desiigner was also a prime target for the NYPD due to his success. “It’s time to embrace the true narrative of a young black man enjoying his success and working hard for a prosperous career.”
