Michael B. Jordan is taking his talents into the creative boardroom. The Newark native announced the launch of Outlier Productions, where the newly-minted executive producer will fulfill his duties under a "multiyear first-look film and TV production deal with Skydance Media," The Hollywood Reporter states.
First up on the Creed actor's agenda will be a new show titled Apollo Park. The drama series will focus on a young professional basketball player's career, and his touchy relationship with family and friends in Detroit, Mich.
"I love telling true, modern stories and Apollo Park — an underdog tale about a very real and very heroic hustler who defies stereotypes and thrives against great odds — has long been a passion project of mine," Jordan said, per The Hollywood Reporter. "Eric [Amadio] and I are excited to join forces with the incredible creative team at Skydance to share it with the world. I’m also very eager to start this new chapter in my career by launching my production company and I am thrilled to have Wynn [Wygal] join my team."
In November 2015, Jordan told VIBE that he plans to focus on participating in stories that he's passionate about. “I’m trying to shine a light on doing films that get people to think about the things we have in place: our systems, education, judicial, police brutality with Fruitvale Station,” he said. “I want to tell the contemporary black male experience today of those situations of how we’re treated.”
Maybe with this new role, those stories might come to light.
