During a during a news conference on Tuesday (Oct. 16) with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Obama responded to Trump’s allegations that the upcoming election is rigged. His sentiments came Monday (Oct. 15) after voter interest polls showed the New Yorker lagging behind Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Trump, Reuters reports. “They even want to try to rig the election at the polling place,” Trump said to a Wisconsin rally crowd. “So many cities are corrupt and voter fraud is very, very common.”

Except that, it isn’t. Obama took heat to the unfounded claims by advising Trump to show up and show out if he wants the position of Commander-in-Chief. “I’d invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and go make his case to get votes,” Mr. Obama said. “I have never seen in my lifetime, or in modern political history, any presidential candidate trying to discredit the elections and the election process before the votes have even taken place. It’s unprecedented. It happens to be based on no facts.”

Since his rigged claims, Republican lawyers have asked Trump to stop spreading the rhetoric. “When you say an election is rigged, you’re telling voters, your supporters, their votes do not matter,” Republican campaign lawyer Chris Ashby said. “I think some of Donald Trump’s comments could cause unrest at the polls.”

Obama echoed the statements, assuring that voter fraud is rare than Trump has led on. “Every expert regardless of political party … who has ever examined these issues in a serious way will tell you that instances of significant voter fraud are not to be found,” he said.

He also praised Clinton for sticking to her guns and remaining above Trump’s verbal blows.

“No matter how tough the odds, no matter how much people try to knock her down, she doesn’t point fingers or whine, she doesn’t talk about how everything’s rigged,” he said. “She just works harder and gets the job done and never ever quits.”
