While speaking at the “True Colors: 40 to None Summit,” a two-day conference that addressed LGBT youth homelessness in the country, Hollywood actor Sara Ramirez comes out as bisexual.
The well respected Chicana singer-actor has made a reputable name for herself in the industry and shows us that it is never too late to be true to yourself. Best known for her role as Dr. Callie Torres on the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, Ramirez also shined as the original Lady of the Lake in the 2005 musical Spamalot, for which she won a Tony Award.
Ramirez came out publicly for the first time during her speech where she spoke about the issue of homelessness as it pertains to the LGBT community. She then went into speaking about her relation and the intersections she was faced with.

"Because of the intersections that exist in my own life: woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth's voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to."
The 41-year-old has been married to Ryan DeBolt since 2012 and she has revealed that many have questioned her sexual orientation due to her character ‘s sexual orientation on Grey's. Now that she has answered the many people's questions on her own terms, she is working on a project that allows people to experience the same, virtually, in hopes of creating empathy with others like her around the world.
