Solange And Melissa Harris-Perry Join Microphone Check To Spread #BlackGirlMagic

Microphone Check has teamed up with Solange Knowles and Melissa Harris-Perry to spread #BlackGirlMagic in conversation at universities across the country. Tonight (Oct. 27) kicks off the events at Stanford University at 7 p.m. PST through Stashimi, a music app focused on driving the culture forward. The popular hip-hop podcast will take the tour across the country visiting three other universities, in addition to Stanford.

Solange is coming off her eccentric Billboard number one album, A Seat At The Table. Harris-Perry is a Wake Forest University professor, a current editor at large for and BET correspondent. The duo is creating powerful material during the socially turbulent times. They will be joined on set by Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and journalist, Frannie Kelley.

“Inspired by racial justice movements, young people are asking what it means to truly live free,” said Jeff Chang, Executive Director of Stanford’s Institute for Diversity in the Arts. “Who better to explore these ideas with than Microphone Check, Stashimi, Solange and Melissa, whose work is about an inclusive future for all.”

The series is looking to spark a conversation that isn’t usually heard on the radio and other mediums. An influential musician will be paired with other prominent societal leaders to dig deeper into the commercial image-driven industry, that is entertainment. You will see a different side to your favorite artists, as they speak about societal change.

“As a brand we’re constantly trying to create interesting and meaningful moments. The Stanford event is just the beginning of a series of artist talks that will look at the intersection of music, artistry, politics and health. These conversations are past due and need national attention,” said Kosta Elchev, Stashimi CMO.

Make sure you listen in live tonight. This is something you’re not going to want to miss.
