The comedy world is sending prayers to Thomas “Tommy” Mikal Ford, who is reportedly on life support after undergoing knee surgery last month.
The 52-year-old shared his journey with fans on Instagram, with hopes of returning to the stage. On Wednesday (Oct 12) it was reported that the comedian passed, but close friends like actress Terri Vaughn refuted the claims. Outlets cited a tweet made by Black-ish star Anthony Anderson, but that tweet has since been deleted. The comedian apologized about the misinformation shortly after.
Yes I was given misinformation about our friend. That’s why the tweet was removed. We are all still praying for Tommy. He needs us even more

Ford’s wife also confirmed Ford’s health to TMZ, revealing an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen on Sunday (Oct. 9.) Since then, he’s been on life support at an Atlanta hospital. Sadly, she says, he isn’t expected to make it throughout the day. It’s suspected that the complications from his surgery might be connected to his current status.
Ford is known widely for his role as Tommy on all five seasons of the iconic comedy series Martin. He stayed busy over the years with roles in House and New York Undercover. He also did voice work on the Disney series, The Proud Family.
His Martin co-stars Tichina Arnold and Martin Lawrence also took to social media to send prayers.
Before his hospitalization, Ford was reportedly working on a documentary.
