Wishing Donald Trump A “Successful” Presidency Is Dangerous And Irresponsible

After the world-wide shock that ensued after Donald Trump had won American presidency, an even greater shock resounded with Democratic supporters in Hilary Clinton’s concession speech. Clinton, in a roomful of supporters, stated with an unwavering attempt at sincerity, “Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country… I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans.”

Supporters of the Clinton campaign appeared incredibly confused and shocked by the former Secretary of State’s call for “national unity.”

“Calls for unity behind a Donald Trump administration are irresponsible, dangerous, and must be rejected,” writes journalist George Ciccariello-Maher for U.S. Uncut. “Liberals who had seen in Clinton a last line of defense against the aggressive right were now witnessing her rebrand him as somehow worthy of the presidency.”

The Clinton camp is encouraging the American public, particularly people of color, queer folks, and poor folks to effectively tow the line, however subconsciously, by ludicrously, “keeping an open mind.”

“When Clinton wishes him a “successful” presidency, what does this mean? Successfully building a wall along the southern border? Successfully rolling back what little protections exist for people of color, queer and trans people, and women? No, we wish no success for Trump,” Ciccarielo-Maher concludes.

Hilary’s speech is a dangerous encouragement of being a historical bystander, a method meant to make people passive in the face of authority and possible terror. This isn’t only hypocritical on her part, given her rigorous campaign efforts, but also extremely irresponsible in lieu of the effect that a Trump presidency and a Republican Senate could have for marginalized people who stand to lose the most from his proposed right-wing agenda.

Every generation has their test. This is ours. We have no time to wait to intervene in the creation of our own history. We must become ever more relentless against Trump in the months to come.
