Yasiin Bey To Perform Several Shows Before Retiring
After settling his immigration issues with South Africa, Yasiin Bey announced he’ll be performing several shows, one at Harlem’s famed Apollo theater and Washington D.C. John F Kennedy Center for the performing arts before he says sayonara to the music business. The final performances will kick of December 21 at the Apollo and then Bey will perform from New Years Eve until January 2nd in Washington, D.C.
At the beginning of the year, Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) was detained in South Africa for violating local immigration laws when he tried to leave by using a “world passport.” Bey has now been granted permission to leave, but cannot return.
Despite this being a sad occasion for Bey fans (the artist also announced at the top of the year that he’ll be recording a final album as well) it’s been reported that Bey will perform a string of his hits from his catalogue including The New Danger, True Magic, The Ecstatic and his classic Black on Both Sides.
It’s most likely fans won’t receive a new Bey album before 2016 is over, but a dope show is also a great second.
