Maya Washington, a friend of the Purple Rain musician since 2014 who did the artwork for his album Art Official Age, divulged the details to GQ, saying that he was supposed to do a “reality show” about his Minnesota home.

He’s [like], ‘Why don’t you help me?’ I’m, ‘I’d love to, but you’d have to be in it,'” she told the mag. GQ recently released interviews with close, personal friends of the musical legend.

“And he’s, ‘No, no, no, I’m not in it,'” she continued. “I’m, ‘Why not? You’re so funny—why don’t you want anyone to see your sense of humor?’ And he would shut it down: ‘Maya, I can’t be funny. I have to save the world.'”

A spokesperson for Netflix also confirmed the validity of the show that could have been. “We did have discussions about it, but sadly for all of us it did not come to fruition prior to his passing,” they told Vulture.
