A Gold Kanye West Statue In The Form Of Jesus Christ Surfaces In L.A.
Great, more reason for Kanye to feel himself.
Kanye West told us he was the "son of man" a long time ago, and it looks like an L.A. artist named Plastic Jesus took that to heart. Wednesday evening (Feb. 22), a sculpture resembling a crucified Jesus Christ with Kanye's likeness appeared on Los Angeles' Hollywood Boulevard.
The statue's features aren't exactly spot on with its Yeezus comparison; clean-shaven beard and somewhat chiseled body don't exactly scream Ye, but Plastic J., who is a reported Yeezy fan, insists that the sculpture was "intended to be as critical of us as consumers and the media as it is of Kanye himself."
"He’s a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him…We’ve seen it before with people like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan," the artist told The Hollywood Reporter. "The same people who put him into a God-like place are the same yapping at his heels for a piece of flesh when something happens."
This isn't the first controversial sculpture Plastic has created in the last year. The sculptor also revealed that he collaborated on the naked Donald Trump statues that appeared across the U.S. The Yeezus statue is reportedly located in close proximity to the Dolby Theatre, where the Oscars will be held this Sunday (Feb. 26), and will be included in Plastic Jesus' L.A. exhibit Anethesia -- The Art of Oblivion this weekend.
