Netflix Releases Trailer For "Burning Sands" Starring Trevor Jackson And Trevante Rhodes
The film is about the world of fraternity hazing.
Actor-musician Trevor Jackson, Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes and Alfre Woodard star in Netflix's upcoming original drama film about black fraternity life and the world of hazing.
Burning Sands, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, already has people talking. The film is based upon the unspoken rituals of initiation into Greek life. Many hazing rituals involve ridicule, humiliation or abuse, which is what the film highlights.
An example of hazing in the beginning of the trailer shows the pledges buying 30 egg, cheese and sausage biscuits and 30 hash browns from What-A-Burger, only to have a fraternity member reject the order entirely because they forgot napkins.
The film is directed and co-written by Gerard McMurray, who also served as a producer for the powerful film, Fruitvale Station. Jason Michael Berman (The Birth of a Nation), Stephanie Allain (Beyond the Lights), Mel Jones (Dear White People) and Reginald Hudlin (Django Unchained) serve as the film's producers.
