Gael García Bernal Takes On Donald Trump’s Border Wall At 2017 Oscars
Gael García Bernal is among a growing list of stars that have addressed Donald Trump in front of millions this award season.
Before presenting Zootopia the award for Best Animated Feature Film, the Desierto actor took a moment to denounce the 45th president’s proposal to build a wall between Mexico and the United States.

“Flesh and blood actors are migrant workers; we travel all over the world, we build families, we construct stories, we build life that cannot be divided,” García Bernal expressed on stage. “As a Mexican, as a Latin American, as a migrant worker, as a human being, I’m against any form of wall that wants to separate us.”
This is far from the Canana Films co-founder’s first rebuttal against Trump. In a 2015 interview with The Guardian, he shut down the then-presidential candidate’s xenophobic rhetoric toward his native country. “I mean, he called Mexicans rapists and drug dealers. How closed-minded and f**king ignorant is that?” he said. His stand at the highly-anticipated 89th Academy Awards further resonated with viewers at home.
