Jay Z To Co-Produce Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In The Heights’ Film

The hip-hop luminary and industry mogul will try his hand at producing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revered play In the Heights.

Miranda’s debut play won a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2008 and will now be making its way to film with the help of Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, after signing a two-year contract with The Weinstein Company where he will work in film and television.

According to Deadline, The news of this deal was announced by esteemed film producer Harvey Weinstein during his pre-Oscars party on Sunday. Jay Z expressed looking forward to his new endeavor saying, “I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight.”

The company’s co-chairman also showed his respect for the rapper and longtime friend: “Jay’s ability to influence entertainment and pop culture has gone well beyond music for many years. He approaches every aspect of his career with both determination and effortlessness, making him one of the leading power players in entertainment history.”

Both parties seem to be excited for what they already have cooking up, and from HOV’s track record in film, from The Great Gatsby, Annie, Top Five, to the documentary on Kalief Browder, we can expect nothing but solid work.
