Woman Separates From Husband Of 22 Years After He Votes For Trump

Donald Trump may be one of America’s most polarizing political figures and presidents, but for Gayle McCormick, anyone who supports Trump is a “deal breaker” even if that person is her husband of 22 years.

In an interview with The Independent, the retired California prison guard and self described “Democrat leaning toward socialist,” was sunned when her ex-husband casually mentioned he was voting for Trump during lunch with friends. McCormick described being taken for a loop after learning the news. “It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump,” the 73-year-old said.

“I felt like I had been fooling myself,” she continued. “It opened up areas between us I had not faced before. I realized how far I had gone in my life to accept things I would have never accepted when I was younger.”

Trump’s election proved to be one of the most divisive in political history and according to polls, many Americans have cut ties with friends and family members who did not share their same political perspective. McCormick’s husband eventually changed his mind about Trump once he saw how serious his wife was, and wrote in former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich for his vote as president. But by that time, McCormick had packed her bags.

While the two plan to still vacation together, McCormick hasn’t sought to have a proper divorce. “We’re too old for that,” she says. However, she has recently moved into her own place.

“It really came down to the fact I needed to not be in a position where I had to argue my point of view 24/7. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life doing that,”  McCormick said.

Well then.
