Banks (known to friends as Ebob) was fighting a rare form of stage-four cancer, and lost her fight on Sunday (Mar. 26) at the hospital. A candlelight vigil was held at her high school, Alief Hastings High School, in her honor after news of her death spread.

Banks’ dying request was to meet her idol, Beyonce. Thanks to friends who started the social media trend #EBOBMEETSBEYONCE, she got her wish just four days before her passing (Mar. 22), and she FaceTimed with the singer and told the singer that she loved her.

“I love you,” Beyonce replied.

“Beyonce is one of her idols,” classmate Katrina Gutierrez told ABC. “She admires her so much.”

Before her passing, Banks was also honored with her high school diploma and a special graduation ceremony. She was accepted to college and was looking forward to becoming a nurse.
