Chance The Rapper To Donate $1 Million To Chicago Public Schools

UPDATE: 4:43 PM EST

Chance The Rapper has stepped up to donate $1 million for Chicago public schools. Following an introduction from Oliver S. Westcott Elementary School’s principal Monique Dockery, Chance took the podium to share the big news. After informing viewers and attendees that the governor admitted to an emotional reaction that cost the Chicago public schools $215 million, Chano spoke on the effects of the lack of funding stating that public schools would end 13 days early putting “Chicago’s most valuable resource” at risk of unsupervised activities.

Chance is determined to opening doors and protecting the children of Chicago and has announced his $1 million dollar donation to the Chicago Public School foundation. The donation was made possible with the help of Live Nation, AEG, and Ticketmaster as well the many independent companies that contributed.

If this wasn’t enough, Chance also announced that for every $100,000 raised Social Works will donate $1o,000 to a specific high school or elementary school in Chicago. The rapper also revealed that Common reached out and they have scheduled a time to discuss the initiative further.

When asked how long his commitment would be, Chance responded with “I don’t know how long I’m gonna be alive for sure. It goes along with being a product of Chicago and being a product of CPS, I want to see the kids succeed.”
