Drake Breaks His Own Streaming Record With ‘More Life’

It seems that Drake’s only competition is himself. The Toronto rapper’s More Life  release surpassed the 250 million streams that his Views LP earned in its first week, reports The Verge.

According to the website, More Life landed 300 million streams on Apple Music since it debuted on March 18. The 22-track “playlist” also earned around 600 million worldwide streams (on various outlets), and was streamed nearly 385 million times in the U.S. alone.

Although Ed Sheeran holds the biggest opening record on a single platform with 375 million streams of his Divide album, Drake’s new project marks another  digital victory for the Grammy winner. Plus, he smashed Sheeran’s Spotify streaming record, with More Life earning 90 million streams on Apple Music in the first 24-hours after it was released.

As The Verge points out, Drizzy managed to make history with Apple Music — which has less than 20 million users in comparison to Spotify’s 100 million — thanks to Beats 1 and OVO Sound Radio. The 30-year-old spitter basically left Soundcloud to exclusively premiere music on the radio platform, and it’s paying off.

More Life becomes Drake’s seventh No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 album charts, wracking up 505,000 equivalent album units for the week ending March 23.
