‘Like Water For Chocolate’ Is Getting A TV Adaptation

Fusing magic realism, family drama and home recipes, Mexican author Laura Esquivel’s best-selling novel Like Water for Chocolate is a global sensation that has not only sold 3.5 million copies in the United States, but also became the highest-grossing foreign-language film in the nation at the time of its 1992 adaptation.

Now, Esquivel’s literary debut is set to take on new life on the small screen. According to Deadline, Endemol Shine Studios is developing the 1989 classic into an English-language series and plans to adapt in other languages in the future.

#nerdybookchallenge [ Fab Meal from a Book ] .. . . Like Water for Chocolate is a beautiful story about Tita, who longs to marry Pedro but can’t due to a family tradition that dictates the youngest daughter to care for her mother until the day she dies. .. . . Wanting to be close to Tita, Pedro agrees to marry her sister. Tita, forced by her mother to be her chaste guardian, is only able to express herself through her cooking. Each chapter starts with a Mexican recipe that unfolds and is related to something happening to the character in that chapter. .. . . It’s a deep emotional story, of longing and aspirations and injustice and love. It’s one of my favourite and the author really knew how to write every single word. You can taste everything in this book, especially all the feelings. Highly recommend it! .. . . . #cubbifulreads #igreads #books #bookworm #booklovers #bookaddicts #bookcover #booksofinstagram #bibliophile #bookaholic #bookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #bookstagram #bookcovers #instabook #likewaterforchocolate #lauraesquivel #comoaguaparachocolate #diversereads

“It fills me with joy to know that Like Water for Chocolate will be brought to television screens throughout the world by a studio that bets on quality in producing content for each of its projects,” Esquivel said. “Of all the companies that offered to create the series, Endemol Shine Studios stood out in sharing a vision of Like Water for Chocolate closest to my own: leading from the heart.”

“The opportunity to adapt this beloved novel is a privilege,” added Endemol Shine Studios President Sharon Hall. “Laura’s epic love story has all the ingredients of a breakthrough drama.”
