Michael Jackson’s Eldest Son Discusses Following In His Father’s Charitable Footsteps
Prince Michael Jackson, the eldest son of the late-King Of Pop Michael Jackson, stopped by Good Morning America on Monday (Mar. 6) to discuss how he plans to continues his father’s charitable legacy and also about his hopes for his own career.
The 20-year-old is now stepping into the spotlight after living a famously sheltered life until his father’s passing in 2009. He’s acted in television shows like 90210, and is stepping behind the camera as a budding producer. Much like MJ, he’s also giving back to his community by working with his charity, Heal L.A..
“It is inspired from ‘Heal The World,'” said Prince to ‘GMA’ host Robin Roberts. “We primarily focus on child abuse, homelessness and hunger in the Los Angeles area.” Recently, Heal L.A. has partnered with “A Sense Of Home” a charity that hopes to thwart homelessness for foster children who have aged out of the system.
“People don’t understand how the little things can add up and really make a big difference in someone’s life,” he said about his charity’s objective. “I’m not a fan of having my private or personal life out there, but I understand the importance of showing what I do, and hopefully trying to inspire others to kind of spreading the good and hopefully helping the community.”
He also discussed his production company, King’s Son Productions.
“It’s a form of motivation,” he explained of the name of his company. “My name is Prince, but for all intents and purposes, I am the King’s son, and I’m working to get my own epithet.”
As for how he and his siblings (Paris and Prince Michael II, known as “Blanket”) have kept their father with them in their endeavors for the past eight years, Prince says that they believe Michael would support them every step of the way.
“As we were growing up, my dad always said ‘I really don’t care what you do in life, as long as you’re happy doing it and you’re the best at what you do,'” he explained. “I think he would always be the supporting figure to me and my siblings and support us in all the endeavors that we try.”
