Aaron Hernandez Commits Suicide
Update: Vibe.com reached out to Aaron Hernandez’ attorney Alex Spiro who was saddened by the news but declined to formally comment.
Former NFL tight end turned convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez committed suicide Wednesday morning (April 19) just days after being acquitted in a separate murder case. Hernandez was 27 years old.
According to CNN, the former New England Patriot hanged himself using a bed sheet which was suspended from a window inside his cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections said.
“Lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez, and he was transported to UMass Leominster, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.,” the department statement reads. Hernandez was reportedly by himself in his cell and “attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”
In 2010, Hernandez was drafted to the Patriots where he dominated on the field. However, on June 17, 2013, Hernandez made headlines when it was revealed he was being investigated for the murder of Odin Lloyd. He was later found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole, but was recently acquitted in a separate case of the 2012 killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
The story is developing.
