Over $10 Million In Settlements Were Given To Women Who Accused Bill O' Reilly Of Harassment

The New York Times reports the settlements were given to five women who accused the FOX host of verbal and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Bill O' Reilly and his longtime employer Fox News have kept their legal handlings quiet until now. In a report by The New York Times, the company along with Reilly, have paid up to $13 million to former colleagues accusing Reilly of sexual and verbal harassment.

The report, released Saturday (April 1) presents five settlements towards the 67-year-old in exchange for their silence. Two of the payouts were public knowledge; former FOX News producer Andrea Mackris reached a $9 million settlement for sexual assault in 2004 while former host Juliet Huddy settled for $1.6 million last year. The latter along with another case happened in the midst of the network's scandal around CEO Roger Ailes, who was accused of the same behavior by hosts like Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson. Some of the cases included accusations of  "verbal abuse, lewd comments, unwanted advances and phone calls in which it sounded as if Mr. O’Reilly was masturbating."

Throughout most of the cases, O'Reilly maintained his innocence while reportedly trashing his accusers. Mackris faced public scrutiny after tabloids published "unflattering" stories about her during the time her case against O'Reilly was open. Private investigator Bo Dietl was hired to find information that painted Makris "as a promiscuous woman, deeply in debt, who was trying to shake down Mr. O’Reilly," the report says.

O' Reilly still has the support of 21st Century Fox, who provided The Times with a statement about the settlements. The company found out about a few of the cases while investigating Roger Ailes.

“21st Century Fox takes matters of workplace behavior very seriously,” the statement said. “Notwithstanding the fact that no current or former Fox News employee ever took advantage of the 21st Century Fox hotline to raise a concern about Bill O’Reilly, even anonymously, we have looked into these matters over the last few months and discussed them with Mr. O’Reilly. While he denies the merits of these claims, Mr. O’Reilly has resolved those he regarded as his personal responsibility. Mr. O’Reilly is fully committed to supporting our efforts to improve the environment for all our employees at Fox News.”

O'Reilly also provided a statement, leaning on his tenure with the network. He also didn't deny the allegations.

“Just like other prominent and controversial people, I’m vulnerable to lawsuits from individuals who want me to pay them to avoid negative publicity. In my more than 20 years at Fox News Channel, no one has ever filed a complaint about me with the Human Resources Department, even on the anonymous hotline. But most importantly, I’m a father who cares deeply for my children and who would do anything to avoid hurting them in any way. And so I have put to rest any controversies to spare my children. The worst part of my job is being a target for those who would harm me and my employer, the Fox News Channel. Those of us in the arena are constantly at risk, as are our families and children. My primary efforts will continue to be to put forth an honest TV program and to protect those close to me.”

Sources have also disclosed that more harassment and discrimination suits will be made public in the coming weeks.

Texas Teen Sentenced To 25 Years After Stabbing Best Friend To Death

A Texas teen was convicted of murdering her best friend last year after an argument transpired during a sleepover. The teen, whose name has not been released because she's a minor, is 14-year-old and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stabbing Nylah Lightfoot in the chest and neck with a kitchen knife.

“I stabbed her and I made the worst mistake of my life,” the convicted girl said. "I wish I had been thinking clearly at the time. I pulled it out instantly and tried to stop her from running.”

According to reports, the accused girl said she and Nylah met at school and quickly became close, stating they were like sisters, but they also fought like siblings.

On the night in question, the girl said she went home after a pool party because there wasn't enough room in the bed at Nylah's apartment. The two began to argue via text message about a slamming door and then about returning clothes that each borrowed.

The teen then claims Nylah showed up at her apartment at 2:30 AM and then began arguing again. The girl says she retrieved a knife from her kitchen. Realizing what she did, the teen said she tried to help Nylah and stop the bleeding with a towel.

Nylah died at John Peter Smith Hospital May 29. Nylah's mother, Antoinette Carter made a victim's impact statement after sentencing and expressed grief her daughter's death came at the hands of her best friend.

“When they told me it was you, it hurt,” Carter told the girl. “You was at my house every day.”

The prosecution, however, didn't buy into the girl's versions of events and stated her anger problems is what caused Nylah's death.

"When she came outside with the knife, she was still in control. But not even her friend could stop her. She was only following through with what she had threatened twice,” Tarrant County prosecutor Jim Hudson said.

The girl faced 40 years in prison but was sentenced to 25. She will serve her time in a juvenile facility until her 19th  birthday.

The girl's stepfather said the verdict was unfair and cited Ethan Couch, the white teen who received no jail time, for driving drunk in 2013 and killed four people.

Report: Justine Skye Granted Restraining Order Against Sheck Wes

Justine Skye has reportedly been granted a domestic violence restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Sheck Wes, The Blast reports. The G.O.O.D. Music artist is now ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the singer until a court hearing that will be held in Mar. 2019.

The restraining order reportedly states that Skye believes that her "life is in danger." The order details a particular event on July 26, 2018, in which she claims Wes allegedly "threatened to punch me in the face, head-butted me, told me he was going to 'hurt me'." Additionally, The Blast obtained the LAPD investigative report regarding the matter that confirms Skye reported the incident in 2018. The singer also noted that Wes' label and management team pleaded with her not to go to the authorities or make the incident public.

The Roc Nation artist first revealed she was a victim of domestic abuse in 2018 with her song and music video "Build." She also appeared on The Breakfast Club that same year to share her story, although she never explicitly named Wes as her abuser.

In Feb. 2019 however, Skye engaged in a back and forth on Twitter with Wes. She decided to take the situation public after alleging that Wes and his crew attempted to stalk and attack her. Wes and his legal team have denied the claims and have vowed to take legal action against Skye.
