Condoleezza Rice On Donald Trump: “Look, We Have A Different Kind Of President”
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stopped by The View Tuesday (May 9) to promote her new book Democracy, but as to be expected got pulled into a conversation about President Donald Trump. Remaining diplomatic, 62-year-old Rice said Trump is unlike any other president the American people have seen.
“Look, we have a different kind of president, alright. He’s different.” Rice said with a laugh.
Rice continued by sympathizing with Trump and stating how difficult it is to be a politician in Washington, and even more so president of the free world.
“He’s never been in government before and when you haven’t been in government before, sometimes it looks easy in there until you get in there, and when he said ‘You know, this job is a lot harder than I thought.’ I actually kind of felt bad for him because it is a really hard job and it’s a lonely job, so you want people around you that you can trust.”
The co-hosts, while respectful, didn’t hold back when asking Rice about Trump’s administration and Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. However Rice said Putin likes to intimidate and while working under the Bush administration, Rice recalled a time when she refused to let Putin scare her.
“I can tell you that I was with him on many occasions, and one particular occasion we went into a room to discuss, and his people are sitting on one sofa-he and his foreign minister-and I’m sitting on the other, and I’m delivering a message about U.S.-Russian relations and they were messing around in Georgia at the time,” Rice explained. “And I said ‘You know Mr. President, if you do anything in Georgia, President Bush wants you to know that would greatly affect our relationship’ and he stood up! And now he’s peering over me and just on instinct I stood up too! Now I’m five-foot-10 in heels and he’s not, so what you can’t do is be intimidated by Putin and let him play these psychological games.”
Okay, Ms. Rice. We see you.
