Lorenzen Wright's Ex-Wife Arrested In Connection With His 2010 Murder
Eleven days after Billy R. Turner's arrest (Dec. 5) for the 2010 murder of former NBA star Lorenzen Wright, a shocking and chilling development has placed the pro-athlete's ex-wife in the national spotlight.
According to FOX13, Sherra Wright-Robinson was detained Saturday (Dec. 16) in Riverside, Calif., and charged with first degree murder and conspiracy attempt first degree murder, solidifying her connection to Wright's death. Deborah Marion, Wright's mother, said her son's $1 million life insurance policy was a possible motive, The Commercial Appeal reports. Wright and his ex divorced months before the former's death. This occurrence closes a seven-year investigation.
Turner, 46, was a deacon at the same church that Wright-Robinson was a minister, The Commercial Appeal adds. His bail is set at $1 million. In November, police officials found the gun that was used to kill Wright in a Walnut, Miss,. lake ESPN notes. The weapon then led law enforcement on a trail back to Turner then Wright-Robinson.
A missing person report was filed on July 22, 2010 before Wright's body was found in a wooded location in Memphis with multiple gunshot wounds six days later. Wright endured 13 seasons in the NBA, playing for his hometown Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Sacramento Kings.
In 2015, Sports Illustrated produced a three-part investigative series on Wright's then-mysterious death where they asked his ex-wife if she was involved with his murder. "At first I'm a wife, then I'm a mother, and then thirdly I'm an author," she said. "The law enforcement should do what's best to find out who's the killer."
