Lil Uzi Vert Offers Advice On Record Deals: “Don’t Sign To A Rapper Or DJ”

Is Lil Uzi Vert frustrated with his record deal? Uzi took to Twitter on Friday (Jan. 12) with some business advice that caught the attention of his label boss, DJ Drama.

The Philly native tweeted, “if you do sign to a major [label] don’t sign to a rapper or a DJ. It’s just easier when the time come for the fake sh*t.”

Drama hit back at the tweet by implying that Uzi wasn’t being completely honest. “[Let’s] state the facts and see who REALLY on some fake sh*t,” he wrote.

In response, Uzi tweeted that he was merely “giving advice” to his “young followers,” and asked if Drama had an “guilty conscious.” Naturally, the public exchange raises questions about possible tension between the two.

Uzi signed to Drama and Don Cannon’s, Generation Now label, and Atlantic Records, in 2015. The next year, Drama fended off rumors that Uzi left the imprint and hopped over to Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang.

In an interview with VIBE in 2016, Uzi was excited to share how he got  connected with the Cannon and Drama.

“Cannon was driving through Philly, they were playing one of my earlier songs on the radio called ‘Uzi’, he heard my songs and called up to Power 99 radio station,” Uzi recalled. “They told him who I was and we linked up. He called my phone he followed me on Twitter which is crazy to me, it didn’t make sense.”
