Mother Of Controversial H&M Kid Model: “Get Over It”
Several people have voiced their disdain for clothing retailer H&M after a controversial creative decision for a new advertisement on their U.K. site, in which a black boy model wears a hoodie that says “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle.”
The mother of the child, however, does not see the issue. Terry Mango reportedly took to Facebook to chastise those who have criticized the brand, writing that many are “crying wolf” and should “get over it.”
“[I] am the mum, and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modeled,” she wrote in the comments on the site. “Stop crying wolf all the time, [it’s] an unnecessary issue here. Get over it.”
Mango and her son are from Sweden, thus they do not share the views of the term “monkey” in reference to black people like we do in the States.
“That’s my son, [I’ve] been to all photoshoots and this was not an exception. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about this… I really don’t understand but not [because I’m] choosing not to, but because it’s not my way of thinking. Sorry.”
Public figures such as Jason Weaver and Diddy have flipped the controversial hoodie slogan into positive messages on social media.
