Applying for colleges can be a stressful time in a student’s life, but the International High School of New Orleans is making sure their students endure a smooth process. IHS encourages its pupils to apply for colleges in class to show them the possibilities are endless. This method benefited senior Darrin Francois, who was accepted to over 80 colleges, ABC7 Chicago reports.

“I just applied, applied, applied. I didn’t know how many it was, so once they started to come through the mail, I was like oh my gosh, this many?” Francois said. “Then, they started coming more and more. Now, today, I have 83 now.”

In addition to his approvals, Francois racked up over $3 million in scholarships between the schools. His mother, Bridget, is overjoyed her son will be able to move forward in his future. “Eighty-three colleges? That is wonderful, that is a blessing from God,” she said. “I’m very proud, a proud mother to see my son go forward into his success and go forward into his goals.”

However, Francois isn’t the only student at IHS with a plethora of confirmations. Others have received over 20 acceptance letters from schools across the country. Director of Student Support Services, Rufus Mcgee, says the faculty’s persistence was still worth it in the end. “I think we got on some of their nerves to be honest with you, but we continued to hammer at them to let them know that the world is yours if you reach out and get it.”

While Francois has yet to officially choose a school, he is currently considering law-based schools and says his decision will be influenced by whichever institution grants him the most money.
