Tom Joyner Will No Longer Play R. Kelly's Music On 'Tom Joyner Morning Show'
The legendary radio personally is the first radio host to publicly announce that his show will no longer support R. Kelly.
For decades, R. Kelly has continued to receive support from black radio stations, despite every sexual assault and statutory rape allegation that has ever surfaced. It appears the #MuteRKelly movement is causing his once-impenetrable musical fortress to crumble as the legendary and iconic radio personality Tom Joyner has announced that R.Kelly’s music will no longer be played on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show.
Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement appeared on the Jacque Reid "Inside Her Story" segment of the Tom Joyner Morning Show after Sophia Nelson accused the movement of “not doing enough to bring down R. Kelly." The two discussed Burke’s ongoing fight against sexual violence toward black and brown women and girls as well as the allegations, past and present, against the Chicago R&B singer.
During the segment, Burke went on to explain how longtime fans and supporters of the “Ignition” singer-songwriter have kept him “wealthy” for decades by supporting his music and have called out various radio stations, including Tom Joyner’s show who have consistently played his music for years.
"We need the Tom Joyner Morning Show to stop supporting R. Kelly," Burke demanded. Immediately, Joyner responded “Okay, you got it. I’ll do that right now. I won’t play anymore R. Kelly music.”
