Wale Put His Spin On H.E.R.'s "Every Kind Of Way"
"99 percent of our bodies align. Why don’t our hearts agree? / She heard my Tidal piece… That’s what entitlement means.”
Like he did with SZA’s “The Weekend,” Wale gives H.E.R.’s woman-centric track a male perspective by using his signature wordplay to describe what lust feels like. Wale also further explains the confusions caused by infatuation. The DMV-native addressed this concept during his recent conversation with Tidal’s Rap Radar podcast, alluding to it with lines like “99 percent of our bodies align. Why don’t our hearts agree? / She heard my Tidal piece… That’s what entitlement means.”
Through his rendition, Wale continues the welcomed regression of his No Days Off roots, which began when he split ties with his former label. Choosing to jump from Atlantic Records and dive into the ocean as an independent artist where he hopes to build an empire through his Every Blue Moon (EMB) imprint.
This decision is proving to be beneficial for Wale. He has relished the freedom provided, using Twitter as his marketing tool and dropping his Its Complicated EP along with singles like “Every Kind of Way” without label restrictions. This combined with his close friends, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, flourishing through awards and expected albums, fans are excited to see what Wale’s self-promoted buzz will create as he seems is ready to add the rap’s lyrical resurgence.
