Consider BJ The Chicago Kid’s ‘The Opening Ceremony’ EP A Summer Warm Up

New Releases

The music gods have been hard at work this summer. Every week has provided a new song or body of work to relish in, regardless of genre. So while on one end, Playboi Carti surprise-dropped his Die Lit album, BJ the Chicago Kid treated R&B savants to his new EP, The Opening Ceremony.

The Motown singer has been relatively quiet up until this point, but now that the weather is warming up, he’s ready to flex for those who’ve been missing his voice. The featureless collection of three new songs—”Going Once, Going Twice,” “Nothin Into Something” and “Rather Be With You”—show off the buttery tones we’ve grown to love from the Windy City native, paired with ride-with-the-windows-down energy.

Next week (May 15), he and singer-songwriter-homie, Ro James, will head out on their joint R&B Tour. The first stop on the mini U.S. trek is Atlanta and their journey will wrap in L.A. at the end of the month.
