Pittsburgh Cop Shoots And Kills 17-Year-Old Fleeing A Traffic Stop
An East Pittsburgh police shot and killed a 17-year-old boy as he was running away from law enforcement Tuesday. (June 19)
The arresting officer took the driver into custody, and as he was placing handcuffs on the suspect, two occupants ran from the car. It was at this time the cop, whose name has not been made public, shot the teen. The boy was reportedly taken to UPMC McKeesport where he later died.
The second suspect in the car ran, and got away. At the time, it’s unclear if the passenger was hit in the gunfire, but police have reportedly asked to speak with him.
Police pulled over the vehicle because it matched the description of a car that fled the scene in which a 22-year-old man was wounded during an earlier shooting.
The shooting was captured on video, which made its to Facebook. A voice recording the encounter can be heard saying “Why are they shooting?” a voice asks, “all they did was run.”
The teen’s name has not been released to the press because the family has not been notified.
