Suge Knight Won’t Be Granted Temporary Release To Attend His Mother’s Funeral
Suge Knight won’t be allowed a temporary prison release to attend his mother’s funeral. Family of the currently incarcerated former rap mogul reportedly wanted to request that he be released to pay his final respects, but Knight is barred from the opportunity because he’s a homicide suspect, the L.A. Country Sheriff’s Department confirmed to TMZ.
Knight’s mother, Maxine Chatman, died from health issues after suffering a stroke last month. She was 77.
The Death Row Records co-founder has been locked up for the better half of three years awaiting the start of his murder trial. Since the arrest, Knight has battled his own health problems, namely blood clots. The Compton native has been hospitalized numerous times, including this past April when he was treated for a mystery issue.
In 2015, he revealed to a Los Angeles court that he was going blind. At the time, Knight had only been behind bars for a few months following his arrest in a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 51-year-old Cle “Bone” Slone.
Knight’s murder trial is scheduled to begin in September.
