Dapper Dan’s Alluring Gucci Collection Will Make You Want To Buy Everything
See how the universe works? Dapper Dan’s long-awaited collection with Gucci has hit the interwebs, lighting up the fashion world.
With a series of photos by Michael Kusumadjaja for Hypebeast, the collection acts as a time capsule to the days of Dan’s “knockups” crafted in his Harlem sanctuary. This time around, however, the fashion designer blends his designs with Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, to make up the official 2018 Gucci-Dapper Dan Collection.
The collection is made up of ready to wear pieces for men and woman such as oversized tees, belt bags (fanny packs), stunning jackets with a vibe of Eric B. and Rakim, as well as Gucci flip-flops and shades. The unveiling comes after the grand opening of Dan’s boutique in Harlem.
Speaking with GQ, Dan looked back on his heyday of designing for street legends like Alberto “Alpo” Martinez and hip-hop mainstays like LL Cool J, Salt-n-Pepa, and the Fat Boys. When it comes to the topic of getting his just due, Dan is happy to be moving forward with the company.
“I’ve left that behind a long time ago. Because I have seen [echoes of] my work in various forms, with various companies,” he said in March. “In fact, Mecca launched their company with one of my initial creations. So I was used to seeing that. The only new idea that I had to get used to is getting credit for it! But social media was up in arms about it—you know, social media is new to me, so it all took me by surprise. But, no—I plan to just move ahead. Sometimes I would have to address it, in fairness to the public, but all in all, I’m very happy about the arrangement Gucci and I have.”
