Music videos may not play in heavy rotation on MTV, but that hasn’t stopped the network’s annual Video Music Awards from handing out moon people to the hottest acts in music. It also hasn’t stopped us or our favorite celebs from reflecting on some of the biggest music videos of all time.
On Monday (Aug. 20), artists like Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Childish Gambino received awards for their stunning visuals for “no tears left to cry,” “Chun-Li” and “This Is America” respectively. The viral visuals were a hit with fans as they continued to push the mission of creativity in music videos.
On the carpet, VIBE chatted with lovers of music videos. While the days of huge music video productions are behind us, it doesn’t hurt to wonder which video Ashanti, Tyga, King Combs, Dasha Polanco or Safaree would insert themselves in.
Acts like Lion Babe and DJ Cassidy kept their choices classic like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and any Hype Williams-directed video of the 90s while model Jasmine Sanders chose Cardi B’s “Ring” visual with Kehlani.
