Between Aretha Franklin’s passing and Nicki Minaj’s Queen antics, the theme of the past week has been giving icons their bouquet of roses while they’re still here to get a whiff of them. Janet Jackson, an artist with nearly 40 years of hits and top-notch entertainment under her belt, will be honored properly by the end of the month.
The “Rhythm Nation” singer will reportedly receive the Rock Star award at Black Girls Rock 2018—the same award Rihanna won in 2016—surrounded by a sea of other phenomenal women and all who appreciate them. Fittingly, Queen Latifah will be handling hosting duties for the show, which is being taped in her hometown of Newark, N.J. this Sunday (Aug. 26).
Other phenomenal women to be honored at the award ceremony, which officially airs on Sept. 9, include Tarana Burke (Community Change Agent award), Mary J. Blige (Star Power award), Lena Waithe (Shot Caller award), Judith Jamison (Living Legend award) and Naomi Campbell (Black Girl Magic award).

The forthcoming event and honor come directly after the release of Jackson’s festive new single, “Made For Now” and just three months after she walked away from the Billboard Music Awards with the 2018 Icon Award.
Tune in to Black Girls Rock 2018 on Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. EST.
