Kendrick Lamar To Perform Special Set At 2018 Made In America Festival
Billed as a “special set” Lamar’s addition to the Philadelphia based festival only ups the ante, as Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Diplo, Zedd and Philly native Meek Mill are slated to grace the stage.
Last week, Pusha-T, Tekashi 6ix9ine, Lil Skies and Daniel Caesar were also announced as performers for the festival.
“Made In America” ran into a bit of a snafu when Roc Nation revealed without its knowing the city of Brotherly love planned to move the two- day event to another location. Since 2012, the festival has taken place in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
A spokesperson for the mayor’s office speaking to the Philadelphia Inquirer said the festival may have grown to be too much to handle.
“When the festival first started, it was intended to provide a unique attraction to the city on the otherwise quiet Labor Day weekend. Over the years, tourism has grown overall, and the need for an event of this scale at this location may no longer be necessary.”
Eventually, an agreement was reached between the city and festival organizers.
“I am greatly appreciative of everything that Made in America has done for the City of Philadelphia and I remain committed to its continued success. The Made in America festival belongs in Philadelphia – the birthplace of our country – and I’m optimistic that we can turn an unfortunate misunderstanding into a positive outcome and even stronger event. I look forward to working with Roc Nation and Live Nation and maintaining this Philadelphia tradition for years to come,” city’s mayor, Jim Kenney said in a statement.
