Mac Miller Officially Charged With DUI Months After Arrest

News

Mac Miller has officially been charged with a DUI following his Los Angeles car crash back in May.

On May 17, Miller was arrested for fleeing the scene of a car accident. Cameras captured the rapper driving his 2016 Mercedes G-Wagon into a power pole around 1 a.m. in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley.

Directly after the incident, the Pittsburgh native and his two friends fled the scene, leaving the car at the wreckage. When cops ran the license plate, they were able to find the Swimming rapper’s California address where he confessed to the hit-and-run. Mac was then taken into custody where he blew a .15 percent BAC (twice over the .08 legal limit) and was held on $15,000 bail.

Although Miller was able to avoid the initial hit-and-run charges, on August 21 TMZ obtained court documents from the Los Angeles Attorney’s Office which book the artist on one count of driving under the influence and another on driving with a BAC of .08 or higher.

Under California law, if Miller is convicted of these charges, he is likely to face up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine, though first-time offenders are usually let off with lesser sanctions.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio, Miller opened up about the crash, stating it was a major wake-up call in his life. “What you don’t understand is that I lived a certain life for 10 years and faced almost no real consequence at all,” he said. “I had no version of the story that didn’t end up with me being fine. Yeah, I made a stupid mistake. I’m a human being. Like, drove home drunk. But it was the best thing that could have happened… I needed that.”
